How Many Drones Do You Need for Words, Logos or 3D Animation?
A buyer’s guide to fleet sizes — what 100, 300, 500 and 1,000+ drones can realistically show.
Why fleet size matters
Each drone is one point of light. More drones mean sharper shapes, smoother curves, readable text from further away and richer 3D animation. Fleet size also drives cost, launch-area size and the crew needed.
Rough fleet bands
Under 100 drones suits simple shapes and short words for small audiences or indoor venues. Around 100–299 handles clear icons, simple logos and short messages. 300–499 supports detailed logos and smooth animation for larger crowds. 500–999 enables complex 3D figures and story sequences. 1,000+ is for headline productions and very wide viewing areas.
Viewing distance and audience size
The further away the audience and the larger the crowd, the bigger the formation needs to be to read well. Tell providers where the main viewing area is and how many people you expect.
Ask for a storyboard
If you are unsure, select “Unsure” for fleet size on the quote form and describe the creative. Providers can recommend a fleet size and share a storyboard or simulation before you commit.
